ALBERT PLENERT

Albert Plenert was born to Rev. John and Amelia Plenert on March 23, 1892 on a farm north of Hillsboro, Kan. This community was his home throughout his 82 years.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith by his father, and was received into the Johannestal Mennonite Church and remained an active and devoted member until his death.

On March 31, 1920, he married Olga Klassen. They lived on a farm near Hillsboro until 1962 when they moved to Hillsboro. Mother passed away on Nov. 29, 1970, just a few months after they had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in the spring of that year.

On July 15, 1972, he married Mary Klassen. They shared the joys of marriage until his sudden death on Dec. 23, 1974.

From the time he became a member of the church until his death, father was a leader both in the church and in the home. He served as superintendent of the Sunday school for 25 years. Later he was elected deacon and worked closely with pastors and leaders of the church for over 40 years.

His leadership and counsel were also felt through his concern for relatives and friends. Many learned to love him as a public school teacher and in the church.

Much of his retirement was spent in visiting and corresponding with his children and grandchildren to whom he was and will continue to be an inspiration.

Preceding him in death were three brothers and two sisters. Those who survive and cherish his memory are his widow; the children, Harold and wife Florine of Wichita, Kan., Eugene and wife Elaine, West Nyack, New York, and Annabelle, Mrs. Kenneth Carrell and husband of Austin, Texas; three brothers, Herman and Erwin of Hillsboro, and Arthur of Hutchinson; one sister, Mrs. Elmer Klassen of Hillsboro, and seven grandchildren.
