— Peter U. Schmidt, 96, last survivor of the original Alexanderwohl immigrant group which came to this area from Russia in 1874, died Sunday at the Bethesda Home in Goessel. His four children were all at his bedside when he died. They are Ernst J. of Hesston, Richard H. of Emporia, Mrs. J. A. Duerksen of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Franz D. Goossen of North Newton. A son, Arthur P., preceded him in death. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Mr. Schmidt was an infant of six months when the Alexanderwohl congregation migrated from South Russia to the Goessel area. He married Anna Unruh in 1898, and she died in 1954. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Ronald Krehbiel officiating.
