He obtained a PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Alberta. He held positions in education and civic administration, including Chief City Commissioner for Edmonton. He was a founding member of Lendrum MB Church, Edmonton. He was involved in leadership in Lendrum, serving as church board chair for many years.
