CARL NICKEL
Carl Nickel, son of Gerhard P. and Elizabeth Schmidt Nickel, was born on July 1, 1908, in Harvey County, Kansas, and died suddenly May 3 at the home on route 3, Newton.
Carl was baptized upon his confession of faith in 1925 and joined the Grace HIll Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful and active member for life. He served on committees and the church board at various times, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Recently he had shown great concern because death was depleting the membership of his class.
He received his education in Candy School, Hillsboro Academy, Bethel Academy and Newton High School. He spent several years in Wyoming doing farm work and sightseeing in the West and Canada.
On Oct. 10, 1935, Carl was married to Grace Unruh. They settled on his parents' farm and continued farming at that location until his death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; a daughter Janice and husband Doyle Koehn of Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, Allen and wife Nori and their daughters Marci Sue and Jani Lynn, and Dwight and wife Beverly, all of Newton; and two brothers, Menno of Newton and Gerhard of Route 3, Newton. Preceding him in death were his sister Dora and one granddaughter, Michelle Jenine.
