•  Mrs. Herbert Hoover, 40, of rural Canton died the evening of Jan. 26 at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro.  Mrs. Hoover, the former Gladys Gish, was a native of Pennsylvania and former resident of Upland, Calif. where she married Mr. Hoover in 1953.  They lived on a farm near Abilene most of their married life, moving to the Canton area about two and a half years ago.  Besides her husband she leaves two sons, Gregory Curtis and Douglas Eugene, and a daughter, Cindy Louise, all of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Gish of Upland; a brother, David Jr. of Orange, Calif; and three sisters, Mrs. Lester Mosebrook of Ontario, Calif., Mrs. Myron Lady of Abilene, and Mrs. James DeSpain of Phoenix, Ariz.  Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Parkview M. B. Church, Hillsboro, with Rev. Henry Born officiating.  Burial was made at Union Cemetery, Abilene, with Miller Funeral Home of Goessel in charge.
