— Memorial services for Mrs. Helene Goertz, 82, who died Sunday at Schowalter villa in Hesston, were held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Bethel College Mennonite Church, following graveside services at 8:30 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery. Conducting the services were Dr. L. L. Ramseyer and Dr. D. C. Wedel. Mrs. Goertz, the former Helene Riesen, was the first librarian of Bethel College, a position in which she continued until the early 1930s. Born Dec. 10, 1888, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolf Riesen of Hillsboro. On Jan. 1, 1933, she married Dr. Peter S. Goertz, who died in 1948. Among the close relatives surviving are a foster son, Paul Goertz of Othello, Wash.; two foster daughters, Mrs. Edith McCaughtry of Indiana and Mrs. Ruth Rahn of Swarthmore, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Selma Linscheid of North Newton and Mrs. Katherine Loewen of Hesston. A library fund in Mrs. Goertz' memory has been established for the libraries of Bethel College and the Bethel College Mennonite church. | |||
