Virginia Businessman, Farmer Dies at Age 86
Harrisonburg, Va. — H. D. H. Showalter, 86, retired businessman and farmer, died Aug. 8 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital here.
A native and long-time resident of the Broadway community, he served on the board of Valley National Bank for 40 years, retiring in 1966. He was treasurer of the Northern District of the Virginia Mennonite Conference for 30 years, and was long active in the Trissels congregation. He established an endowment fund for the church cemetery.
Mr. Showalter moved to Park View in Harrisonburg in 1950 and to the Virginia Mennonite Home in May of this year. Funeral services were conducted at the Trissels Church by David Augsburger and Norman Yutzy.
Survivors include four daughters and five sons and their families, and one sister, Mrs. Ollie Eimen.
