British Columbia Doctor and Family Die in Plane Crash

A young British Columbia physician, his wife and their two small children were killed when their light plane crashed into Lake Superior near Sault St. Marie on Nov. 11, it has been learned here by Rev. Ralph K. Weber of North Newton.

Dead are Dr. Paul Plummer, 29, his wife Winnifred [sic Winifred] and their children Mark, 4, and Laurie, 3. Dr. Plummer was a native of Kitchener, Ont. and a son of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Plummer of rural Waterloo, members of the Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, Kitchener. He was a first cousin of Rev. Weber, also formerly of Kitchener.

The Plummer family, of Prince George, B. C. where Dr. Plummer was chief of staff at Prince George Regional Hospital, were flying to Ontario to visit his parents. Their plane went down for unknown reasons on a two-hour flight from Port Arthur to Sault St. Marie.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, search crews found the bodies of Dr. Plummer and his wife, who was expecting another child, washed onto the shore of the lake. Some of the family's luggage and part of the plane wreckage also was washed ashore, but bodies of the two children had not been recovered at last report.

Bodies of the Plummers were taken to Kitchener, where burial services took place Monday morning, Nov. 18. A memorial service for the family was held in the afternoon at the Stirling Avenue Church. Mrs. Plummer was formerly of Portland, Ore.
