&bull;  Jacob H. Klassen, 76, retired carpenter of Elbing, died Sunday at Bethel Deaconess Hospital.  He was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church, where the funeral was conducted on Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Harold Graber in charge.  Surviving are his widow, Agathe; three sons, Oswald and Oliver of Elbing and Herschel of Whitewater; one daughter, Mrs. John (Luella) Gray of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and two brothers, Pete of Goessel and Abe of Newton.

Jacob H. Klassen, son of John P. and Sara Heinrichs Klassen, was born on Jan. 17, 1882 [''sic'' 1892] near Canton, Kan.
 
He was baptized by Rev. Peter J. Krause on June 11, 1911 and accepted into the Mennonite church in Lehigh, Kan.
 
He was married to Lena Krause on July 18, 1915.  Together they experienced the joys and sorrows of life for over 32 years until her passing on Aug. 5, 1947.  To this union were born three sons and one daughter:  Oswald, Hershel, Oliver, and Luella.
 
In 1926 the family moved to the Elbing, Kan. community and in 1927 he and mother transferred their church membership to the Zion Mennonite Church.  Here he held various offices.
 
On Oct. 24, 1948 he was married to Agathe Andres by H. J. Dyck.  They enjoyed life together for nearly 19 and one-half years.
 
He made his living by farming and carpenter work until retirement.  In the last years of his life he also helped out at the elevator, which he enjoyed very much.
 
On March 7 he entered Bethel Deaconess Hospital and on the 14th he submitted to surgery, from which he never fully recovered.  He departed to be with his Lord and Saviour on April 7, 1968.
 
Father was much concerned about the welfare of his family and prayed often for children and grandchildren.  his pleasant disposition helped us over many difficulties.
 
In addition to his widow, Agathe, he leaves to mourn his passing his children, Oswald with Hilda and family of Elbing; Herschel with Mildred and family of Whitewater; Oliver with Rosella and family of Elbing; Luella with John Grey and family, Fountain Valley, Calif.; two brothers-in-law, Henry Nuss of Newton and John Andres of Elbing; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Thresa McComb of Topeka and Anna Andres, Moundridge; 12 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.  His parents, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

JACOB H. KLASSEN
