Hillsboro, Kan. — Funeral services were conducted at the Ebenfeld M. B. Church southeast of Hillsboro on March 2 for Waldo J. Loewen, 48, who was killed instantly Feb. 28 in a car-truck head-on collision near Wichita. | |||
At the time of the accident, Mr. Loewen was southbound in a truck containing six head of cattle. Lloyd E. Nunns of Newton, driver of a northbound car, applied his brakes to stop for a car making a left turn and skidded across the medial strip into the path of the truck. The truck came to rest in the ditch. | |||
A native of this community, he is survived by his wife, Mary, and seven children, James, Elaine and Harold, who are Tabor College students; Helen, Christine and Douglas, students in Unified District 410 schools; and a three-year-old daughter, Darlene of the home. | |||

Hillsboro Farmer Dies In Car-Truck Crash
Hillsboro, Kan. — Funeral services were conducted at the Ebenfeld M. B. Church southeast of Hillsboro on March 2 for Waldo J. Loewen, 48, who was killed instantly Feb. 28 in a car-truck head-on collision near Wichita.

WALDO J. LOEWEN
Waldo J. Loewen, 48, of Ebenfeld Church near Hillsboro, Kansas, was killed suddenly in a car accident on February 28. He was a son of Peter and Katherine Loewen, formerly of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and now of Hillsboro, and was married to Mary Kroeker, daughter of M. A. Kroeker of Hillsboro. He was the father of seven.
A dedicated member of the Ebenfeld Church, Waldo served as church choir director, Sunday school superintendent and teacher and more recently as church council member and church moderator. He also served on the local school board for six years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, James, Elaine, Harold, Helen, Christine, Douglas and Darlene; his parents and parents-in-law; as well as three sisters and a brother.
