•  P. J. Schmidt, 78, retired farmer of the Goessel community, died Monday morning at the farm home near Goessel where he had lived since his marriage in 1913.  The funeral is to be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Aaron Epp in charge.  Mr. Schmidt was long active in community affairs, having served on the West Branch Township board since 1922, as assessor for most of this time, treasurer for several years, and on the ASC County Committee.  He was also active in his church.  Surviving are his widow, the former Katherine Unruh, three sons and two daughters and their families, and two sisters.
