MANASSEH A. TROYER

Manasseh A. Troyer, son of Andrew and Dorothy (Yoder) Troyer, was born March 29, 1878 near Kalona, Iowa. He had his first birthday when his parents moved to McPherson County, Kansas.

In early manhood he was baptized and became a member of the Amish Mennonite church. On June 30, 1901 he was married to Millie Zimmerman of the same community. Moving to Harper county in 1902, they were charter members of the Crystal Springs Church which was organized in 1904.

Manasseh established himself in the community as a hard working farmer of integrity, not neglecting his civic responsibilities. He served 20 years on the local school board, and in other capacities. He was active in the church regular in attendance.

Health gradually failed him in the last two years. In recent months he spent short periods of time in the hospital. On the morning of Aug. 1 he died sitting in his chair at home. He had attained the age of 89 years, four months and three days. He was preceded in death by his companion on Oct. 8, 1962; also by one son and two infant granddaughters.

His home was blessed with six daughters and two sons: Nettie (Mrs. Henry Yoder), Crystal Springs; Ross of rural Harper; John, deceased June 11, 1957; Irene (Mrs. Lloyd Nichols), Arvada, Colo.; Amy (Mrs. William Mast), Millersburg, Ohio; Beulah of the home; Gladys (Mrs. Glenn Baker), Anthony; Amelia (Mrs. Walter Marner), Denver, Colo.; and two daughters-in-law, Hazel (Mrs. John Troyer), Crystal Springs, and Vera (Mrs. Ross Troyer). Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kate (Mrs. David J. Yoder), Hutchinson, and Fanny (Mrs. A. J. Stutzman), Crystal Spring.

Funeral services were conducted at the Crystal Springs Church Aug. 4 by Earl Buckwalter and H. J. King.
