HENRY PAUL DERKSEN
Henry Paul Derksen of Borden, Sask. passed away Mar. 13. He was born Feb. 23, 1917 to Gerhard and Maria Derksen. He accepted Christ at 14. In 1936 he was baptized and joined Borden MB Church. On Sept. 30, 1945 he married Esther Bueckert, a union blessed with 1 daughter and 5 sons. In 1962 Esther died. On Apr. 22, 1965 he married Kathryne Froese of Steinbach, a union blessed with 2 sons, Randy and Dennis. He farmed the same farm in the Great Deer district for 47 years. He is remembered as one who had the respect of the church and the farming and business communities; one who had a sincere interest in the church and in the spiritual welfare of his family; and a cheery grandpa whose example might well be followed. After cancer was diagnosed, he demonstrated courage and faith. He loved life and, despite his suffering, was a thankful man. He firmly believed in prayer and faded away while praying at the breakfast table. Predeceased by his first wife Esther and son Melvin in infancy, he is mourned by his wife Kathryne; daughter Janet Sierink of Westlock, Alta.; sons Garry of Maple Ridge, B.C., Ron of Lethbridge, Alta., George of Shellbrook, Sask. and Bruce, Randy and Dennis of Borden; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 sister and 3 brothers. The funeral was Mar. 17 in Borden Community Centre, with Les Riediger and Otto Derksen ministering. Rick Schellenberg ministered at the interment service.
