JOHN P. KLIEWER
John Peter Kliewer of St. Catharines, Ont. passed away on November 7. He was born on September 23, 1898 to Peter and Helena (Block) Kliewer in Dolinsk, Neu Samara, Russia; served in the medical corps as a young man; married Anna Dick on May 26, 1921 in Donskoi; immigrated to Canada in August 1926; pioneered near Beechy, Sask. for eight years, then moved to Ontario, first in Beamsville and three years later near Virgil; supervised building of Virgil MB Church; in 1958 moved to Virgil and lived there till 1977. He accepted Jesus as his Saviour at age 19 and was baptized on June 1, 1924; taught Sunday school for 49 years. He was predeceased by son John in 1943 and by daughter Helen Nickel in 1975. Surviving are his wife, Annie, of Tabor Manor, St. Catharines; one son, Peter and Violet Kliewer, St. Catharines; three daughters, Mary and Corney Penner, St. Catharines, Anne and Abe Willms, Niagara Falls, and Alvina and John Koop, Kitchener; 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren The funeral was held on November 10 in the Virgil church with pastor Abe Quiring and Isaac Toews in charge.
