•  Mrs. Marie E. Schmidt, 74, died unexpectedly at her home in North Newton last Thursday morning.  She had not been ill, and her body was found in the home after it was noted that she was not about as usual.  The funeral was conducted Saturday afternoon at the Bethel College Church, of which she was a member, with Rev. Russell Mast officiating.  The former Marie Gaeddert, she was married to John U. Schmidt at Inman in 1922.  He died in 1958.  In recent years she had been a part-time employee at the MCC Relief Center in North Newton.  Surviving are two sons, Raymond Eugene of Farmington, N. M. and Richard Lee of Topeka; six grandchildren; one sister and six brothers, of whom Gustave R. and Walter E. Gaeddert are residents of North Newton.
