MRS. KATHARINA GOERTZEN
Katharina Goertzen of St. Catharines, Ont. passed away on August 5. She was born to David and Elisabeth (nee Fast) Dirks on March 7, 1891 in Gnadenthal, southern Russia. Her family moved to Siberia when she was young; at age 12 she accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour, was baptized into the MB Church; married David D. Goertzen in 1913, settled in Waldheim, southern Russia; left Russia for Mexico in December 1925, then in 1926 to Canada; Newton Siding, Man., then Steinbach, Man. area, moved to St. Catharines in 1938; celebrated 50th wedding in May 1963; husband David died February 5, 1970. She is survived by five daughters and husbands: Katie (Mrs. John Hiebert), Anna Vertes, Elizabeth (Mrs. Jake Schmor), Martha (Mrs. Peter Peters), all of St. Catharines, and Sara (Mrs. Kay Walker) of Cayuga, Ont.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one brother.
