MRS. KATHERINA MARTENS

(Mrs.) Katherina Martens of Elm Creek, Man. passed away on August 17. She was born to Peter and Henrietta Neufeld in 1895 at Romanofka, Ekaterinoslav in southern Russia. Orphaned at the age of 14, she lived with various relatives. She married John Jacob Martens of Molotschna on January 25, 1915. Two years later she was baptized and joined the MB church. They came to Canada in 1925, settling in Herbert, Sask. After several moves, they purchased a homestead near Fairholm, Sask. in 1929. In 1949 they moved to a farm at Elm Creek. Her husband died accidentally on August 16, 1955. In May 1976 she was hospitalized after a fall, and in 1978 she moved to Tabor Home, Morden. She was predeceased by two daughters and one grandchild. She leaves to mourn six sons: Peter of The Pas, Man., Corney of Coaldale, Alta., John, Henry, Abe and Jake of Elm Creek; three daughters: Mrs. George (Stella) Wiebe of Carman, Man., Mrs. Henry (Kay) Visch of Winnipeg and Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Dyck of Chilliwack, B.C.; son-in-law Peter Enns of St. Catharines, Ont.; 40 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
