MRS. ELIZABETH PETERS MARTENS

On January 10 after a long life, (Mrs.) Elizabeth Peters Martens of Niverville, Man. was called home. She was born May 3, 1887 to Cornelius and Elizabeth Isaak in Friedensruh, southern Russia. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour when she was 15 years old, was baptized in the following year 1903, and was to be one of the Mennonite Brethren for 75 years. On November 21, 1906 she married Jacob Peters. During their marriage they lived through W.W. I, the famine and emigration to Canada. They settled on a farm near Niverville. Her husband died on August 9, 1931, and she trusted God to help her bring up the family. After 25 years as a widow, she married Jacob Martens of Niverville. Their happy marriage lasted 17 years. As they grew older, they moved to the Resthaven Home in Steinbach, where Mr. Martens died on November 26, 1974. During the last year of her life she lived in the Donwood Manor, Winnipeg.

She is predeceased by three sons, Cornelius, John and Henry, and two daughters-in-law, Alice and Agnes. She leaves to mourn her passing four sons, two daughters, two sons-in-law and five daughters-in-law, nUMerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was held in the Niverville Mennonite Brethren Church, where Mrs. Martens had been a member since the start of the church some 50 years ago. Pastor Abe Konrad conducted the service.
