• Henry P. Nikkel, 64, of rural Canton died Wednesday morning at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel where he had been a patient for several months.  He farmed in the  Alexanderwohl community until entering the hospital, and since then his wife had moved to their new home in Goessel.  She survives with their son, Vernon of Hesston, two grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Alexanderwohl church, with Rev. Aaron Epp in charge.

Henry P. Nikkel of Goessel, Kan.; son of Abraham J. and Elizabeth Penner Nikkel, was born July 9, 1899 in Marion County, Kan.  He attended the North Springfield Elementary School.
 
On Dec. 26, 1917 he was baptized by P. H. Unruh upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church where he remained a faithful member.  He served one term as a trustee of the church.  P. H. Unruh was also the officiating elder when he was joined in holy matrimony to Martha Dirksen on Oct. 12, 1922.
 
They took up farming in Marion County.  After a few years they moved to McPherson County where they made their home.  He enjoyed farming and did it with an attitude of Christian stewardship.  He demonstrated great love for his grandchildren and exercised good Christian virtues in daily life.
 
He enjoyed good health until about two years ago when he needed hospitalization due to his illness which was later diagnosed as cancer.  He entered the Bethesda Hospital again last March and remained a patient until his death July 1, 1964, eight days before his 65th birthday.  He was known for his patience in suffering,
 
Those remaining to cherish the memory of his life are his wife, Martha; one son Vernon and his wife.  Lennea and their children Greta and Sanford of Hesston, Kan.; two brothers, J. P. Nikkel of North Newton, Kan. and T. P. Nikkel of Rt.1, Canton, Kan.; four sisters, Marie, Mrs. P. D. Buller of Rt. 1, Lehigh, Kan., Elizabeth, Mrs. Adolf Funk of rural Hillsboro, Kan., Esther, Mrs. R. F. Glassen of Goessel, and Mathilda, Mrs. Rufus Unrau of Rt. 1, Lehigh; two aunts, Mrs. Sara Penner Nickel and Mrs. Marie Penner Funk, Hillsboro, besides many relatives and friends.

HENRY P. NIKKEL

Henry P. Nikkel of Goessel, Kan.; son of Abraham J. and Elizabeth Penner Nikkel, was born July 9, 1899 in Marion County, Kan. He attended the North Springfield Elementary School.
