Pioneer Settler Leaves 150 Descendants
Hillsboro, Kan. — Funeral services for Mrs. Martin Jost, 88, a resident of this community since 1885, were held April 22 at the First Mennonite Church. Rev. Elbert Koontz, the pastor, and Rev. A. W. Malin of Fort Atkinson, Wis. officiated.
Mrs. Jost, who died at the Salem Hospital on April 18, leaves a total of 150 descendants including one great-great-grandchild. Her ten sons and four daughters were all present for the funeral.
Born in Friedensruh, Russia, in 1875, she came to this area with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Golbeck, at the age of 10. Formerly a member of the Baptist church, she had been a member of the First Mennonite Church since 1889. Mr. Jost died here in 1938.
