MRS. MARY I. WIENS

Mary I. Wiens was born in Romanowka, in the Ukraine, the seventh child of Isaak and Aganetha Dyck, on October 28, 1895, along with a twin sister, Anna. She enjoyed a happy childhood in a Christian home, one of eight sisters and five brothers. At the age of 10 she felt a conviction of sin and the need for a Saviour and made a profession of faith in J esus Christ. As a girl of 18 she began to work in the sewing room of the Bethania hospital and it was there that she made an adult commitment to Christ and was baptized soon after at Sagradowka by Elder Martens.

On September 13, 1920 she was joined in marriage to Jacob P. Wiens. They stayed on in Russia for the next four years, during which time the first two of their children were born. In June, 1924, they emigrated to Canada, settling first at St. Jacobs , Ontario, then Kitchener and finally Hespeler. Here she lived until December, 1973, when she moved to Tabor Manor, St. Catharines, because of declining health. The Lord called her home on August 22. She was predeceased by her husband in 1936 and by a son, Jacob, in 1974. She leaves to mourn, one daughter, Elsie (Mrs. Eric) Dyck of Hespeler; one daughter-in-law, Isobel (Mrs. Jacob) Wiens, Hespeler; four sons, Ernest·and wife Queenie, Hespeler, Edward and wife Irene, St. Catharines, John, Barrys Bay, Ont., and George and wife Ruth of Kingston; 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her family is comforted to know that she passed into the presence of the Saviour in whom she trusted.
