Hillsboro, Kan. — Two long-time residents her were called away in death early last week. | |||
Mrs. Eva Schroeder, 83, a life-long resident of Marion County, died May 14 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Eva Jantzen, in Hillsboro. The former Eva Schmidt, her first marriage was to Peter Kasper who died in 1919. Her second husband was William Schroeder who died in 1937. | |||
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Lehigh Mennonite Church, with Rev. Henry Isaac and Rev. P. W. Goering officiating. | |||
Mrs. J. E. Schmidt, 83, a resident of the Salem Home for Aged, died May 13 at Salem Hospital. She was a native and long-time resident of McPherson, where her husband, Jacob E. Schmidt, taught school for many years. He served as librarian at Tabor College for about five years before his death in 1953. | |||
Funeral services were held May 16 at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. | |||

Mrs. Eva Kasper Schroeder, daughter of David and Elizabeth (Goertz) Schmidt was born in Marion County, Kansas on Sept 25, 1879. She received her early education at Sand Creek school where she also attended Sunday school. | |||
She was baptized upon her confession of faith at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in May 1897 by Rev. Peter Balzer and accepted into the membership of that church. Later she transferred her membership to Mennonite Church of Lehigh where she was a member at the time of her death. | |||
On Nov. 7, 1910, she was united in marriage to Peter Kasper. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters. On May 19, 1919, Mr. Kasper passed away, leaving the mother with two small children aged 4 and 6 and a third who was yet to be born three weeks later. | |||
In December 1927 she was married to William Schroeder who passed away on Dec. 24, 1937. After this she made her home with her son until 1956 when she went to live with her oldest daughter, in whose home she died. | |||
She endured much suffering in her life. In later years she lost the sight of both eyes, but regained the sight in one following surgery. For this she was very thankful. | |||
In 1959 she suffered a paralytic stroke from which she partially recovered. She passed away on Tuesday, May 14, having reached the age of 83 years, seven months, and 19 days. | |||
She leaves to mourn her departure her three children, Olga and husband Ira Janzen, Bernard and wife Lydia, and Mathilda and husband Henry Foth, all of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. | |||
