SARAH BOECKNER
Sarah (Yost) Boeckner was born Dec. 9, 1876, near Reed City, Mich. In 1880 she moved with her parents, John and Catherine Yost, to near Archbold, Ohio. When she was four years old, her mother died. In 1884 she with her father and two sisters moved to a farm near Plymouth, Neb., where she grew to womanhood.
On Jan. 6, 1898, she was joined in marriage to John M. Boekner, with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for over 46 years. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters.
In 1902 our parents accepted the Savior and were converted. Upon their confessiion [sic] of faith and forgiveness of sins they were baptized and united with the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, to which they remained faithful to the end.
In 1919, out of a deep concern for the welfare of their children, they moved to near Hesston, Kan., where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Being the wife of a deacon, she found many avenues of Christian service in fellowship with her husband. About 20 years ago her health began to fail somewhat. Special prayer was offered for her at that time, and the Lord graciously blessed her with health to serve in her calling.
On Nov. 12, 1944, her husband passed to his reward, after which her widowed sister, Mrs. Leah Yost, lived with her for about ten years. After her sister's passing she made her home with her eldest daughter, Leah, (Mrs. George Dyck), until her master called her home.
On the morning of Feb. 9, 1963, she peacefully fell asleep after a brief illness of about one day.
The children who survive are, Leah, Mrs. George Dyck; Aaron and wife Gertrude; Daniel and wife Dorothy; and Mary, Mrs.Frank Wenger; 41 grandchildren, 113 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many relatives and friends. Her husband, one daughter, and son-in-law, one deaughter-in-law [sic], two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the Meridian Mennonite Church, Hesston, Kan., on Feb. 12. Minister Milford Wenger and Minister Paul Wenger were in charge. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the church cemetery. — The Family.
