			<center>'''JACOB G. PANKRATZ'''</center>

			Jacob G. Pankratz of Goessel, Kan., son of Peter and Elizabeth Goerz [sic Goertz] Pankratz was born Jan. 24. 1866 at Steinfeld, South Russia. He came to America with his parents in the 1874 migration of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church on the ship S. S. Cimbria. He was one of the three surviving immigrants. His elementary schooling took place in the Springfield school.

			He was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Saviour on May 30, 1887 by Elder Jacob Buller and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Church where he remained a faithful member.

			On Sept. 22, 1891 he entered holy marriage with Katherina Loewen and took up farming in Marion County. Elder Heinrich Banman officiated at the marriage ceremony. This marriage was blessed with five children.

			Bro. Pankratz was an active participant in the life of the church. He taught Sunday school classes for many years. he served also as a trustee and as Arbitrarian Committee member. Honesty and self-discipline are descriptive of his nature. He sought this for the life of the congregation and for his own life.

			In retirement they moved to Goessel in 1944. Mrs. Pankratz preceded him in death in 1960. They had the good fortune of celebrating their 25th, 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. Mr. Pankratz enjoyed good health for the major portion of his life. His daughter, Lydia, cared for him during these last years. He passed on peacefully to his eternal home on Nov. 10, 1964, having reached the age of 98 years. One daughter-in-law and two grandchildren also preceded him in death.

			Those remaining to cherish the memory of his life are his children, Jacob and wife Marie of Goessel, Susie and husband H. P. Buller of Rt. 4, Newton, Lydia at home, Agnes and husband Rudolf F. Duerksen of Rt. 2, Canton, Albert and wife Ella of Goessel, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren,; one brother, George G. of Newton; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. C. G. Pankratz of Buhler, and many other relatives and friends.

			Funeral services were conducted at the Alexanderwohl Church by Rev. Aaron Epp, who spoke on Romans 8: 18 and Rev. John Thiessen whose text was Psa. 90: 1-11.
