			text of obituary:

			GERHARD EWERT, son of Peter Ewert and Helena Nachtigal Ewert, was born in Michalin, near Machnovka, Russia, July 19, 1840. He was baptized and received into the church, April 9, 1858. He was joined in marriage with Eva Foth, May 5, 1871. Two children, Anna and John, were born to them. The family came to America late in 1874, arriving in Peabody, Kansas, December 5. In 1875 the family settled on a 40 acre farm in Pleasant Township, Haney County, Kansas. Here the mother preceded her husband in death, July 1917. For a number of years he lived alone in the home, highly appreciating the assistance by the neighbors. When the infirmities of old age made it impossible for him to stay alone, he was taken to the hospital. There in the home for the aged he sprent the last years of his life, always highly appreciative of and grateful for the care he here received. In July 1940 his hundredth anniversary was celebrated in the home for the aged. — He passed away April 14 at 4 a. m. at the age of too years, 8 months, and 26 days.— His son, John G. and children survive him

Although speechless during the last few days, attendants could observe that he was content with his circumstances and departed from life with a happy expression on his face.
