Abram Bergmann of
Bevan Lodge, Abbotsford, B.C.,
passed away Mar. 10
at age 88. He was
born in 1912 to Johann and Anna
Bergmann. He grew
up in a village in
Kuban Colony, Russia. When he was
12, the family immigrated to Canada.
He eventually settled
in B.C.'s Fraser Valley. He attended
Coaldale (Alta.) Bible
School. He married
Heidi Reimer in April
1942. He opened a
small bicycle shop in
Greendale, B.C., later expanding it into
"Bergmann's Service
Station". He retired
in 1976. He read his
Bible to his family
every morning and
prayed. He was devoted to the Sunday
school class he
taught for many
years in Greendale
MB Church. He
loved the stories of
the heroes in the
Old Testament and
enjoyed debating
things related to the
Bible. He spoke often about the blessings of the Lord on
him and his family.
He kept a family
photo album and
loved to tell stories
about his past,
teaching his children
about their extended family, the Mennonite community
and his values. He
loved his cars and
kept them in perfect
shape. He loved Heidi; they modelled a
good relationship.
He enjoyed camping
with his family in
Banff and northern
California. He was
excited about a visit
to the Holy Land. He
was creative, adapting machinery to fit
his needs. He became a wood carver.
He is remembered
for his wise counsel,
honesty, integrity,
principles and sense
of humour. He
found getting old
difficult and longed
to go home to see
his Creator. In the
end, he showed
courage and didn't
fear death. Predeceased by a granddaughter, a sister and
2 brothers, he is
mourned by Heidi;
children Luella Wiebe,
Sophie Klassen,
Wilma Derksen, Wes,
and Patricia Arndt;
12 grandchildren; 1
great-granddaughter; and 2 sisters. The
funeral was Mar. 13
in Greendale MB
Church.
