JAC. P. UNRUH

Jacob P. Unruh was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Unruh on December 13, 1885, at Moundridge, Kansas. At the age of about 13 years, his family moved to Oklahoma.

When but a young man he was baptized by Rev. Johann Ratzlaff and joined the New Hopedale Mennonite church of Meno.

On March 21, 1907, he married Susie Koehn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Koehn. Eight children were born into this family. He made his home at different places in the Meno locality, at Carnegie, and in Colorado. For the last 16 years he had made his home two miles west and four miles north of Meno. Here he resided until his death.

Father was in good health through all his years. It was only during the last six months that ailments set in. In February he was taken to the hospital at Oklahoma City, where he remained for a week. He came back encouraged and improved in health. Again he became quite active, helping in the work on the farm and performing his duties in different offices of the West New Hopedale Mennonite church where he was a charter member.

On Sunday morning, May 10, 1953, at about 5 o’clock, father sought to rise from bed when death struck suddenly and unexpectedly. He sought to rise and enter a day of rest and blessing in the house of God, but rose higher to enter the eternal day of rest in his Lord's very presence.

He reached the age of 67 years, four months and 27 days. He leaves to mourn his departing his sorrowing wife and mother of the home, and seven children; Albert of Hillsdale, Lorena, Mrs. Ervin Schmidt, of Carnegie, Milton of Aline, Katherina, Mrs. David Froese, Walter, at home, Wilbert of Tahlequah, and Ruby of Chouteau.

One daughter preceded him in death, dying in infancy. Besides these, two sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, 25 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two brothers survive. There are also a large host of friends, and many brothers and sisters in the Lord.

He made a public confession of his full surrender, and had witnessed faithfully, praising the full salvation by faith in the precious blood of the Lamb. Father manifested great interest in mission work and contributed liberally. His duties as an officer in the church were discharged most faithfully, serving his Lord.

“The death of His saint is precious in the sight of the Lord."
