Mrs. Veronkika Stucky

Veronika Stucky, nee Voran, was born at Eduardsdorf in Russia on the 24 of January 1842. On May 4, 1856 she was baptized and united in holy wedlock to John Stucky December 25, 1859, with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for 57 years. On July 24, 1917, her husband passed away and from that time she made her home with her s\children. thirteen children came into their home, six of which preceded the mother in death.

When the Russian Mennonites immigrated into this country in 1874 the deceased with her family was among the immigrants. They settled in the southeastern part of McPherson County, Kansas at Christian, now Moundridge, and despite the difficulties of early pioneer life by diligence and frugality they prospered and established a good home. The family first united with the Hoffungsfeld Mennonite Church and in the spring of 1883 transferred the membership to the First Mennonite Church of Christian, Kansas, now Moundridge, where the deceased remained a member until death.

For many years she experienced the school of suffering. In March 1920 she suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which, however, she slowly recovered. In September 1926 she suffered the second stroke and as a result became bedfast until death relieved her. On Tuesday evening, September 27, 1927, she departed this life at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 3 days.

She leaves 7 children, five daughters and two sons, 35 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, who cherish her memory. — Moundridge Journal.
