Mother Killed, Others Injured in Accidents At Nappanee, Ind.

Napanee, Ind. — A grinding three-car collision on U. S. 6 two miles west of here the evening of Nov. 15 resulted in instant death for Mrs. Alma Slabaugh, 51. Amish mother of nine children, and injuries to eight other persons.

The car carrying six members of the Edward T. Slabaugh family stopped on the highway before making a left turn and was hit from the rear by another motorist, propelling the Slabaugh car into the path of one coming from the opposite direction.

Mrs. Slabaugh was the former Alma Yoder. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Henry Yoder home near here.

Doctor Badly Hurt

Dr. J. S. Slabaugh, 88, long-time physician here, was seriously injured Sunday, Nov. 11, when his car was hit by a second auto as he turned into the driveway of his home. He was rushed to Elkhart hospital, where his condition was described as poor following surgery.

The doctor's wife, Lulu sustained a forehead laceration when thrown against the windshield. Ira Keith Burkhart, 18, driver of the other car, was not injured. All were returning from morning church services.

(Since the above report, word has been received that Dr. Slabaugh died on Sunday, Nov. 18. Funeral services were on Wednesday at the Nappanee First Mennonite Church.
