JACOB B. SHENK

Jacob Shenk died at the home of his son Lester at Elida, Ohio, on Sept. 15 after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 13, 1888, in Allen County and lived in this area all his life. He was 72 years of age and was a retired contractor and farmer.

He is survived by his widow, Barbara, who has been an invalid for some years and who is with a daughter in Virginia now; seven sons, Merlin, Warren and Timothy of Lima, Edward of Elida, Oral of Chicago, Lester of Wapakoneta, and William with the armed forces in Korea; four daughters, Mrs. Herman Heinrich (Nellie) of Lafayette, Mrs. Vernon (Alice) Hartzler of Timberville, Va., Mrs. Roland (Cretora) Alexander of near Elida, and Mrs. Milo (Esther) Bastian of Franklin; and five brothers, Otto, Noah and Timothy of this area, Erasmus of Lima, and Ira of Richmond, Va.; four sisters, Mrs. Irvin Diller and Mrs. Sam Powell of this area, Mrs. John Cusick of Lafayette, and Mrs. Ellen Straman of Berien [sic Berrien] Springs, Mich.; and 21 grandchildren.

He was a member of the Salem Mennonite church, where funeral services were held on the following Sunday afternoon with Richard Martin officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Grove cemetery.
