JACOB U. SCHMIDT

Jacob U. Schmidt, son of P. H. and Anna Unrau Schmidt, was born on February 7, 1882, and died Sept. 9, 1947 reaching the age of 65 years, seven months and two days.

He received his elementary education in the Hochfield School near the place where the family resided. He was baptized on confession of faith in his Redeemer on May 18, 1902, by Rev. Peter Balzer, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl church, where he remained a member until his death.

He was united in marriage with Mary G. Hiebert on June 6, 1907. They were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows for 40 years, three months and three days. This union was blessed with eight children, one of whom, Ruth, died at the age of one and one-half years. The rest of the children were all present at the burial of their father.

Although of average health, in the last eight years his health began to fail rapidly. He was bedfast the last ten days of his life, when he suffered much. He has now been redeemed from all suffering and pain and we desire to meet him again in the land where pain and suffering are unknown.

He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing wife, and his children, Walter J. Schmidt of Lehigh, Mrs. John B. (Verna) Flaming and Adolf L. Schmidt of Hillsboro, Bernhard D. Schmidt of the home, Carl Schmidt of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Orlando (Frieda) Voth and Rudolph Schmidt of Newton; 12 grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the Alexanderwohl church on Sept. 14, and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. P. A. Wedel, assisted by Rev. C. C. Wedel.
