HENRY L. SCHMIDT

Our dear husband, father, and grandfather, Henry L. Schmidt, son of Peter H. and Helena Lehrman Schmidt, was born on July 7, 1891, in Marion County, Kansas. He spent his entire life in the Heimbaugh community where he received his elementary education. Later he attended the preparatory school in Goessel.

At the age of three he suffered a severe case of polio that left him partially crippled, yet he remained active in farming throughout his life.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ his Savior on June 11, 1911, by Elder P. H. Richert and accepted as a member of the Tabor Mennonite Church of which he remained a faithful member until the end.

He was united in marriage to Frieda Schmidt on Nov. 8, 1918, by Elder P. H. Richert. by God's grace they were privileged to enjoy life's joys and sorrows together for over 38 years. They received great joy in celebrating their 25th and also the 45th [sic 35th] wedding anniversaries.

Three children were born into this home and brought to him many blessings. He was always concerned abut [sic] his family, and especially enjoyed the visits of his children and grandchildren. His words of love and deeds of kindness will never be forgotten.

The religious radio programs became especially dear to him in recent months when his health began to fail. On Sunday evening, May 12, after a day of church worship and family visiting, he was suddenly overcome by a series of convulsions, and he was taken to the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel. there he suffered a stroke and the following morning he went to be with his Lord, having reached the age of 65 years, 10 months and six days.

He is survived by his loving wife Frieda; his children, Velma and husband Dan Guhr, Raymond and wife Helen, Richard and wife Earla, and 10 grandchildren, all of route 2, Newton; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. J.
