FRANK SCHMIDT

Frank Schmidt, for many years a resident of the Friedenstal community north of Durham, Kan., died April 30 at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. He was 73.

Mr. Schmidt was born May 1, 1897, in McPherson County, the son of Henry H. and Helena Unruh Schmidt. As a young boy he moved with his parents and sister to the Friedenstal community and resided their until his death.

He became a member of the Friedenstal Mennonite Church on May 7, 1916. He was active in church affairs and served as Sunday school superintendent and as deacon for many years.

On April 6, 1921 he married Rachel Jantz and they were able to observe their golden wedding anniversary only last month.

Mr. Schmidt first became ill in 1966, but following surgery was able to return to his farm work and remained active until February of last year when his health began to decline.

Survivors include his widow, Rachel; a daughter, Mrs. George Rempel of Diller, Neb.; two sons, Junia of Tampa, Kan. and Arelie of Aurora, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon, May 3, in the Friedenstal Church with Rev. Sylvester Dirks and Rev. Harvey Jantz officiating. Interment was in the Peace Valley Cemetery.
