Elgin, Ill. — Dr. Harold W. Row, 59, a leader in peace and service ministries of the Church of the Brethren most of his life, died in George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D. C. on July 14 after a two-year-illness.

For 21 years Dr. Row served as executive secretary of the Brethren Service Commission. In December 1968 he was named to head the Washington office of his denomination and as executive of the church's Committee on Inter-Church Relationships.

In 1948 Dr. Row inaugurated a pioneer-type of volunteer service for youth of his church, and in 1952 he was co-founder of International Voluntary Service. For 16 years he was chairman of the National Inter-religious Board for Conscientious Objectors in Washington, and for more than a decade he served as chairman of the governing board of CROP, the Community Appeals Program of Church World Service.

Memorial services were held July 18 in the Washington City Church of the Brethren and in Elgin, site of the Church of the Brethren headquarters.
