Mrs. Eva Richert

Mrs. Eva Richert, wife of P. P. Richert, was born July 14, 1869, and went to be with Christ October 23, 1939, age 70 years, 3 months and 9 days.

When but five years of age, she with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Unruh came from Poland, Russia to Newton. She grew to womanhood in McPherson county and endured many hardships of pioneer days.

On December 8, 1889, she was united in marriage to P. P. Richert, this being the fiftieth year of their happy union. They lived on a farm near Gypsum, Kansas, until eleven years ago when they moved to a farm four miles south of Abilene.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Frank of Roxbury, and Emil of Southgate, Calif.; one daughter, Ruth of the home; two daughters-in-law, Eva and Elizabeth Richert; three grandchildren, LaVeda and Wilma Richert and Stewart Richert; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Ratzlaff and Mrs. Henry Schmidt, both of Tampa; besides other relatives and friends. A son Benjamin preceded his mother in death 12 years ago.

From our midst has passed a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother and a kind and true friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She received Christ as her own Savior approximately 33 years ago and enjoyed the Word of God as her heritage ever since. For the past three years, she had been in failing health and the Radio Gospel program was a great comfort and inspiration to her during this time. Even in her last days, her lips moved in prayer and song and on late Sunday night she asked to have the Bible read to her and longed to go home.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."
     "Asleep in Jesus — Blessed sleep.
From which none ever wake to weep;
     A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes."

Funeral services were held at eleven o'clock at the home, conducted by Frank Nicholson of Abilene assisted by Dwight H. Johnson of Salina, and at 2 o'clock in the Emmanuel church near Moundridge, with Rev. John Ratzlaff of Newton and Rev. Tom Carrol of San Jose, California, officiating. Burial was in the nearby cemetery.
