Long-Time Friend Of Newfoundland VS Workers Dies

Akron, Pa. — "Aunt Susie" Reid, whose home was always open to Mennonite Central Committee workers in Twillingate, Newfoundland, passed away on July 27. In 1954 the first MCC workers arrived in Twillingate. Peter and Susie Reid opened their home and welcomed the workers.

Throughout the years, one or two MCC workers have often been quartered in the Reid household. Even when volunteers weren't living with them, they were welcome in the Reid home.

"If we wanted to know the whereabouts of any of our workers who had been in Twillingate," says Edgar Stoesz, director of voluntary service, "all we had to do was contact Aunt Susie. She kept track of all the workers who had served in her community."
