John J. Krause.

Our father, John J. Krause, was born on February 6, 1870, in the village Gnadenthal, South Russia. His parents were Jacob Krause and Anna Pankratz Kraus. In 1871 he emigrated with his parents to the United States of North America, where they settled in McPherson Co., Kansas. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith on June 6, 1892, and united with the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, where he was a faithful member to the time of his death.

He entered into the state of matrimony with Anna Duerksen on Sept. 9, 1893. Our mother died on May 19, 1921, and our father was left alone. He lived in the state of matrimony 27 years, 8 months and 10 days. To this union nine children were born, 5 sons and 4 daughters, all living at this time. He was grandfather to 20 grandchildren, of which one died in infancy.

He was a great lover of singing and passed away much time by singing songs which deal with the believer's eternal destiny and hope. He believed in Jesus his Savior and Lord and was willing to die. He lived a simple life and cared for his loved ones.

On April 23, 1936, he was brought to the Bethel Hospital at Newton, Kansas where he was operated for Hernia April 29. the operation was a success. On Thursday, about 8 A. M. , he had a heart attack. Two further attacks followed and the last one caused his death. He died suddenly on Saturday, May 9, 1936, at 11:50 P. M. His span of life covers 66 years, 3 months and 3 days. There are left to mourn his departure: the children — Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Krause; Mr. John B. Krause; Miss Agnes Krause; Anna and David J. Schroeder; Sara and George G. Flaming; Clarence Krause; Isabel and Frank Baily; one sister, Mrs. Peter H. Dirksen and one half-sister, Mrs. Abraham Funk, Inola, Oklahoma, and many other relatives and friends.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.
