CORNELIA KOOP KLIEWER

Cornelia Koop Kliewer, our sister and aunt, was born on Dec. 17, 1881, to Abraham and Cornelia Koop, at Hillsboro, Kansas. Here she spent her childhood days and received her elementary training. For some time she worked for the Mennonite Brethren Publishing House.

In her childhood days she recognized her lost condition and was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour.

As a young lady she was somewhat depressed because of the trials of life that faced her. In 1913, she with her father made a trip to Russia to visit relatives and friends.

About the year 1935 she came to the West Coast and had spent her time in the cities of Reedley and Fresno. In June, 1945, she was united in holy matrimony to Henry Kliewer. This union lasted only for about five years, as her husband passed away.

Our sister was greatly interested in Christian work and spent much time and effort in arranging and publishing a chart for children's work.

Her life was clouded with many dark hours and severe battles because of her nervous condition. However, in the darkest days she reached out her hand of faith to Christ her Redeemer.

About three weeks ago she was hospitalized with pneumonia from which she did not recover. She passed away Monday, July 23, 1956. She reached the age of 74 years, five months and seven days.

Those who remain to mourn her departure are the following children over whom she assumed the responsibility of motherhood when she was united in marriage to our father: Elizabeth, Mrs. Thiesen of Dinuba; Kathryn, Mrs. Dumas, Burbank, Calif.; Helen, Mrs. Martens of Dallas, Oregon; Mrs. Fry, Goessel, Kansas; Johanas Kliewer, Portland Oregon; and Henry Kliewer, Fresno,Calif. Also surviving are four sisters, Katie, Mrs. Whitworth, Weatherford, Okla., Maria, Mrs. Harder, Detroit, Mich., Susanna, Mrs. Nickel, Reedley, Calif., and Helena, Mrs. Hamm, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and one brother, Isaac Koop of Washington.

One sister and five brothers preceded her in death. — The Relatives.
