Emery Daniel King was born June 12, 1922, in Kenmare, N.D., the youngest of eight children born to Harry and Rosa King. After the death of two brothers, his only sister and his father, the family moved to Pennsylvania in 1935. They lived in Gettysburg and Gap.
In 1939 Emery and his mother and brother Lloyd moved to Frazer, Pa., where he lived for 47 years before retiring and moving to Trout Run, Pa. He died Sept. 12, 1998, of leukemia in the Williamsport Hospital at the age of 76.
In April 1942 he married Ruth Brackbill. They shared 56 years together. He farmed for his father-in-law for 20 years and then was a tool and die maker for 27 years. While living in Frazer, he was active in Youth for Christ Ministries, Frazer Summer Bible School and was a member and music director at Frazer Mennonite Church. He led singing in the Brunk tent meetings in the Lancaster area. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Relief Sale Board for 20 years.
In the Trout Run area he was one of the founders of the Marsh Hill Bible School. He also promoted youth ministries, which led to the establishment of Cornerstone Community Center. He was licensed by Lancaster Conference for prison ministry. He was a charter member of the Sonrise Riders, a local chapter of the Christian Motorcycles Association.
He was a member of Mountain View Fellowship of the Mennonite Church in Bodines, Pa.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children and their spouses, Harry and Marge King of Frazer, Ralph and Brenda King of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Lois and David Huston of Frazer, David and Deb King of Bird-in-Hand, Pa., and Dan and Laurie King of Nairobi, Kenya; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Amos of Westover, Md., and Frank of Lititz, Pa.
Funeral services were held at Cornerstone Community Center. Burial was in the Frazer Mennonite Cemetery.
