Registrar Of College Called Away In Death

RAY HILTY HAD SERVED ON BLUFFTON COLLEGE STAFF SINCE 1932

Bluffton, Ohio. — Ray Hilty, registrar and instructor in Typing and Shorthand at Bluffton college, died following a brief period of illness with a heart condition on Friday, April 31 [sic April 30]. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Hornal of Woodstock, Ont., Canada, and by three brothers, Ralph, Reno, and Roy.

Ray Hilty was born July 6, 1904, in Pandora, Ohio, the son of the late Dr. N. S. Hilty. He graduated from Bluffton college in 1927 and attended the Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima, Ohio, in 1929-30. He was appointed assistant registrar and office manager in 1932. He was made registrar and instructor in Typing and Shorthand in 1941.

Mr. Hilty was a member of the First Mennonite church in Bluffton and was secretary of the congregation. He was also the treasurer of the Mennonite Mutual Aid Society of Putnam, Allen, and Hancock counties. His hobby was gardening and flowers, and he was active in the Bluffton Garden club.

The funeral was held at the First Mennonite church at Bluffton on May 3, at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Alvin Beachy officiated, assisted by Dr. Lloyd Ramseyer, president of the college. The Bluffton College Vesper Choir sang two numbers. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge cemetery near Pandora.
