DEATH COMES TO NOTED LABOR LEADER IN NEW YORK

AT POINT Lookout, N. Y., Sidney Hillman, noted labor leader, who rose from immigrant boy to political importance as head of the powerful CIO political action committee, died on July 10 at the age of 59. Death was caused by heart disease.

Hillman was reported to have extraordinary influence over the late President Roosevelt and as having been greatly responsible for his re-election in the fall of 1944.

As president of the dominating Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union and as vice-president of the CIO, Hillman was a controlling figure not only in labor circles of this county but also abroad.

Funeral services in New York's Carnegie Hall and Riverside Memorial Chapel were conducted by the well-known Jewish Rabbi Stephen S. Wise.
