Oldest Male Resident Dies at Henderson

Henderson, Neb. — Peter C. Friesen, oldest man of the community and a lifelong resident here, died Jan. 29 at the age of 90. He leaves his widow, Mary, a daughter, Mrs. Abe Peters, and son, Waldo, all of Henderson.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 31 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church.

PETER C. FRIESEN

Peter C. Friesen was born near Henderson, Neb. to Jacob and Anna Friesen on Sept. 20, 1878, and died in the Henderson Community Hospital on Jan. 29, 1969 after being hospitalized for seven weeks, attaining the age of 90 years, four months and nine days.

He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized on June 4, 1900 by Elder Peter J. Friesen and received into the Bethesda Mennonite Church of which he was a faithful member to the end. He was deeply concerned for his church and Sunday school and wholeheartedly supported it. He received his elementary education at the local grade school, only reaching the third grade.

He married Kathrina Doell on March 7, 1901 and they shared life's joy and sorrows for almost 40 years. Mother died Feb. 6, 1941.

Five children were born to this union. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Abe (Ada) Peters of Henderson; one son-in-law, John R. Friesen of Geneva, Neb.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. G. J. Friesen of the Henderson Nursing home. He was preceded in death by his wife; one so, Walter J.; two daughters, Rose and Selma (Mrs. John R. Friesen); one granddaughter Glenda; four brothers and two sisters.

He was engaged in farming until 1937 when he retired and moved to Henderson.

On Dec. 2, 1945, father was married to Mrs. Mary Janzen Friesen. He also leaves to mourn his wife Mary, and five step-children: Fred of Henderson, Ruben of San Francisco, Calif.; Sophia Bergen of Sutton, Neb., Lucie Beyer of Norwalk, Calif., Nellie Urban of Wichita, Kan., and Tillie Wingard of Ventura, Calif.; nine step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was one step-son, Walter F. Friesen.

He seemed to have a reservoir of patience and always enjoyed the visits of relatives and friends during the course of his final illness.

Funeral service were conducted at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson on Jan. 21 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverends Walter Dyck and Abe Krause officiating. Interment was at the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery.
