WELL-KNOWN FARMER, BUSINESSMAN OF MEADE, KANSAS DIES

Meade, Kan. — Henry K. Friesen, 49,well-known farmer and businessman here, died at Meade District Hospital on May 27 after a seven-month illness of cancer.

In addition to his farming interests he was in the transport trucking business, handling grain and oil. He was named Meade's Businessman of the Year in 1963.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Emmanuel Mennonite Brethren Church.

HENRY K. FRIESEN

Henry K. Friesen was born April 18, 1915, near Meade, Kansas, the son of Henry H. and Katherine Friesen. He spent his entire life in Meade County.

He was baptized Sept. 2, 1934 upon confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn D. Friesen on Aug.14, 1938. To this union were born three daughters, Mrs. Jean Wiens of Meade, Sharon and Joyce of the home, and one son, Dale, also of the home.

Henry was engaged in the transport trucking business, hauling oil and grain, and also farmed near Meade. He was chosen Meade's Businessman of the Year 1963. He was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren of Commercce and of the motor Carriers Association.

On Oct. 23, 1963 Henry had a medical checkup after not feeling well for several months. It was discovered he was suffering with liver cancer and was pronounced incurable. During his lengthy illness he maintained a strong faith in the goodness of his Lord. He bore his illness with patience until he went to be with his Lord on May 27, 1964.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, one son and three daughters; his son-in-law, Fred Wiens; two brothers, Abe K. of Hutchinson and John K. of Meade, six sisters, Mrs. Katie Welker and Mrs. Helen Isaac of Meade, Mrs. Marta Classen of Hillsboro, Miss Elizabeth Friesen of Ulysses, Miss Ann Friesen of Dodge City, and Mrs. Sarah Lohrenz of Fairview, Okla.

His mother preceded him in death in 1933 and his father in 1958.

Services were conducted May 30 at 2 p.m. at the E. M. B. Church under the direction of Rev. J. N. Hiebert, Rev. A. H. Watkins and Rev. Orlando Wiebe.
