Death Claims Retired Illinois Minister

Metamora, Ill. — Funeral services for Rev. Ben Esch, 84, whose service in the active ministry spanned 54 years, were held Sept. 17 at the Calvary Mennonite Church, Washington.

Rev. Esch died unexpectedly on Sept. 14 at Chetek, Wis. where he and his wife were vacationing. They had just observed their 59th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

A native of this area, Rev. Esch was a graduate of Goshen College and Moody Bible Institute. He was assistant pastor of the Calvary Church from 1911 to 1936 and senior minister from 1936 to 1950. He then served as pastor of the Tiskilwa Mennonite Church for 15 years before retiring and moving to Washington.

Survivors include his widow, Anna; a daughter, Mrs. Geo. Heitz of Harrisonburg, Va.; two sons, Robert of Washington, Ill., and Rear Adm. Arthur Esch of Washington, D. C.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
