WALTER EPP

Walter Epp of St. Catharines passed away Jan. 13. He was born Nov. 4, 1908 to Peter and Margaretha Epp in Laird, Sask. He accepted the Lord at age 8 and was baptized by John Regier in Laird Mennonite Church at age 17. He spent his early years on the family farm , where his talent for repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment became evident. On June 29, 1935 he married Mary, and they started their own farm. In 1941 they moved to St. Catharines, where they resided until his death. He had a number of health problems but worked hard to support his family. He operated several service stations, a farm equipment dealership and a hardware store, and built three homes for his family. He was active in Sunday school, serving as superintendent for a number of years. He helped found and build a new church. He and Mary served as deacons for over 30 years. He was a Gideon for many years. He helped build the MB church in Spragge, Ont. He was a willing volunteer when any need arose, but in later years suffered much physical disability. His family was very important to him. Predeceased by daughter Gwen in 1970, he is mourned by his wife; children Orlin, Marlene Toews and Dale; 9 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The funeral was in Fairview MB Church, St. Catharines, with Paul Wartman ministering.
