ANNA W. EPP

Anna (Wiebe) Epp, daughter of Jacob and Marie Weibe, was born in Herrenhagen, Germany on Feb 27, 1879. When she was nine years old the parents brought the family to America, arriving in Beatrice, Neb. on October 9, 1888. She attended school in Germany and continued her education in the public schools of the Beatrice community and also in the parochial school of the Mennonite Church. Later she worked for several years for Mr. and Mrs. Aaron E. Classen.

Mrs. Epp was baptized by Elder Gerhard Penner on May 25, 1896 and remained a devoted, faithful member of the Mennonite Church throughout her life. She was married to Henry P. Epp on Sept. 19, 1901 near DeWitt, Neb. This union was blessed with six sons and one daughter. She was preceded in death by one son, Louie, in 1921 and by her husband in 1962.

Mr. and Mrs. Epp farmed in the Beatrice community from 1901 to 1935 when they moved to Beatrice. On Dec. 16, 1966 a long-time desire was fulfilled for Mrs. Epp when she received her United States citizenship papers and became a citizen of her adopted country.

In 1970, because of advancing age, Mrs. Epp moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Beatrice. She enjoyed good health until recently. She passed away at the Mennonite Hospital in Beatrice on June 21, 1973 at the age of 94.

She is survived by her sons, Walter and Fred of Beatrice, Herman of Grand Island and Abram and Henry of Lincoln; her daughters, Louise, Mrs. William Peterson of Lexington, Neb.; one sister, Gertrude, Mrs. Seibel of California; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Epp was a devoted wife and mother and a devout witness for Christ throughout her life, always ready to help those in need.
