ELIZABETH ENGEL

Mrs. Elizabeth Engel, nee Bechthold, was born on October 6, 1883, in South Dakota. There she spent her childhood and met and married Fred Engel. They were married in 1903. In 1910 the young family moved to Woodrow, Sask. to take up a homestead. Starting from very humble beginnings their life required much work and even more prayer. Elizabeth was an untiring and never complaining wife and mother. Her quiet and pleasant contribution became a strong influence on the whole family. She gave birth to 11 sons, eight of whom are alive today, and helped to equip them for life and eternity.

Elizabeth's parents were of Lutheran and Seventh Day Adventist persuasion. About 1913 Elizabeth gave her life to Christ in the Mennonite Brethren Church at Woodrow and her life became a real witness to the faith. She was a woman of prayer and regular in church attendance. She was also faithful in bringing her family to the Lord. Her husband accepted salvation only a few months before his death in 1962 and all her children also accepted Christ, having seen a living example of discipleship in their mother.

She went to be with the Lord at Medicine Hat, Alta., where she and her husband had lived in retirement since 1944. The last few years had been spent in the Baptist Haven of Rest.

She is survived by her sons Alfred of Red Deer, Alta., Emil of Medicine Hat, Earl of Regina, Art of Vancouver, Ted of Medicine Hat, John of Lodi, Calif., Rubin of Woodrow, Sask., and Ewald of Woodrow, and their wives and families.
