Anna Dyck, Tochter von Leonhard und Agnetha (geb. Funk) Bartel, ward geboren nahe Hillsboro, Kansas, am 29. Aug. 1884 woselbst sie auch ihre Kindes- und Jugend-jahre verlebte und ihren Schul- und Religionsunterricht erhielt. In Folge des letzteren, erkannte sie den Herrn Jesum und nahm ihn auf als ihren persöhnlichen Erlöser und wurde am 27. Mai 1901 vom Aelt. Wilhelm Ewert getauft und in die Bruderthal Gem. daselbst als Glied aufgenommen. Im zarten Alter von 13 Jahren verlor sie ihre Mutter, die plötzlich starb, verursacht durch Herzschlag. Noch in demselben Jahr, erhielt sie vom Herrn eine zweite Mutter. Am 17. Juni 1909 trat sie in den heiligen Ehestand mit John Dyck bei Whitewater, Kansas. Ihr Trautext war: 1. Mose 32:26b. Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn, was auch erfüllt wurde, durch mancherlei Segnungen vom Gott und es ihnen auch vergönnt wurde in 1934 ihre Silberhochzeit zu feiern, welches Vorrecht sie eigentlich nicht erwartete wegen ihrer geschwächten Gesundheit. Nach ihrer ehelichen Verbindung hat sie ihre Gemeindegliedschaft in die Emmausgemeinde versetzt und ist der Gem. und ihrem Erlöser treu geblieben. Aus ihrem Ehebündnis sind ihnen 4 Söhne und eine Tochter geboren: Albert, Elmer, John, Ralph und Helen. Ihr Pfad war nicht nur mit Rosen bestreut, denn sie hatte auch oft zu leiden und mußte sich vier Operationen unterziehen. Erstens als ihr ältester Sohn geboren wurde und später zu einer andern. Am 12. Febr. 1943 kam sie in das Bethel Hospital und wurde das dritte Mal operiert und am 11. März durfte sie wieder heim. Aber ihre Herstellung war nicht wie erwartet und wurde am 24. März wieder in das Hospital gebracht und am 3. April mußte sie sich der 4. Operation unterziehen, die sich aber gefährlich erwies, weil ihre geschwächte Gesundheit solcher Anstrengung nicht wiederstehen konnte. Am 8. April, 5:40 des Morgens, verließ sie ihre irdische Hülle um daheim zu sein bei ihrem Herrn und brachte hiermit ihren Lebenslauf auf 58 J. 7 M. und 10 T. Sie hinterläßt, ihren Abschied zu betrauern, ihren trauernden Gatten, 4 Söhne, 1 Tochter, 2 Schwiegertöchter, 3 Großkinder, ihre zweite Mutter, 6 Brüder, 5 Schwäger, und 10 Schwägerinnen. Ihre Eltern, 4 Schwestern und ein Bruder, gingen ihr im Tode voran. Ihre sterbliche Hülle wurde auf dem Emmaus Friedhof am Sonntag den 11. April zur Ruhe gelegt. Aelt J. C. Kaufman diente mit Trostesworten im Haus, in der Kirche und am Grabe, und eine Gruppe junger Leute dienten mit mehreren passenden Gesängen. Psalm 126:5, wir gönnen ihr diese Freude.

— The many friends and relatives of Mrs. Anna Dyck, wife of John Dyck of Whitewater, were sorry to hear of her death at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital on Thursday, April 8, after an illness of many weeks. during her lifetime Mrs. Dyck had to submit to several operations and on Saturday, April 3, a fourth operation became necessary, from which she, however, failed to recover. She was born in the Brudertal community at Hillsboro on August 29, 1884, thus passing away at the age of 58 years. She is survived by her deeply bereaved husband, by four sons, Albert, Elmer, John, and Ralph; and one daughter, Helen. She was a member of the Emmaus church near Whitewater, where the very large funeral was held Sunday afternoon, April 11. The service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. C. Kauffman.

ANNA BARTEL DYCK

Anna Bartel Dyck, daughter of Leonhard and Aganetha (Funk) Bartel, was born at Hillsboro, Kans., August 29, 1884. She spent her childhood days and young womanhood in the Hillsboro community, where she received here secular and religious education.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour and was baptized on May 27, 1901, by the late Rev. Wilhelm Ewert and was received into the membership of the Brudertal Mennonite church. At the tender age of 13 years she was bereft of her mother, who died suddenly of heart failure. The same year the Lord gave her a second mother.

On June 11, 1909, she was united in holy bonds of matrimony to John Dyck of Whitewater, Kans., with whom she shared joy and sorrow for more than 33 years. Their wedding text which is found in Gen. 32, 26, "I will not let thee go except thou bless me." was fulfilled in her life. Under the blessing of God she was permitted to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary with her now bereaved husband in 1934, an event she did not expect to reach on account of her infirm health.

After her marriage she transferred her church membership to the Emmaus Mennonite church at Whitewater, Kansas, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She was true and faithful to her Saviour as well as to her church.

To this union were born four sons and one daughter, Albert, Elmer, John, Ralph and Helen. her life's path was not strewn with roses only. She had to go through much suffering and pain. She had to submit to four operations, the firs tone when her oldest son, Albert, was born. Later she submitted to another operation.

She entered the Bethel hospital on Feb. 12, 1943, when she submitted to her third operation and returned home on March 11. Her recovery, however, was not as expected and she returned to the hospital on March 24. On April3 she had to submit to the fourth operation which proved fatal as her weakened condition could not withstand the strain. On April 8, at 5:40 A. M., she left this earthly tabernacle to be at home with the Lord, thus being her age to 58 years, 7 months and 10 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her deeply bereaved husband, 4 sons, 1 daughter, 2 daughters-in-law, 3 grandchildren, her second mother, 6 brothers, 5 brothers-in-law, and 10 sisters-in-law. Her parents, 4 sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

It is not death to die to leave this weary road;
And midst the brotherhood on high to to [sic] be at home with God.
It is not death to fling aside this sinful dust.
And rise on strong exulting wings to live among the just.
Jesus Thou prince of life, they chosen cannot die
With Thee they conquer in the flight and reign with thee on high.

Her remains were laid to rest Sunday afternoon, April 11, at the Emmaus Mennonite church. her pastor, Rev. J. E. Kaufman officiated and a group of young people rendered several special numbers of music.
