MRS. ANNA DALKE

Mrs. Anna Matthies Dalke, 74, passed away Saturday, June 27, at the St. Anthony hospital in Pocatello, Idaho following complications from surgery performed the day before.

She was born April 11, 1885, in South Russia,the daughter of Franz and Katherina Wiebe Matthies. As a child she came to America with her parents and they settled in Kansas. She received her schooling there and on March 31, 1910, married Henry Dalke. They moved to Oklahoma and then in 1914 to Dubois, Idaho where she had since lived.

Her husband passed away in 1942. Two step-children, Anna Lehman and Lena Dalke, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Dalke was a lifelong member of the Mennonite church and belonged to the Ladies Mission Society.

Surviving are the following: five sons, Ferdinand of Aberdeen, Arnold of Dallas, Ore., Ernest of American Falls, Ida., Eldon of Kansas City, Mo., and Orlando of Boise; six daughters Mrs. Henry (Ester [sic Esther]) Ediger of Dallas, Ore., Miss Rosella Dalke of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Don (Martha) Misner of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Edmund [sic Edmond] (Pauline) Wilske of Berkeley, Calif., Mrs. Harry (Linda) Classen of Oregon, and Mrs. Jay (Ruth) Eden of Salt Lake City, Utah; five step-children, Arthur of Salem, Ore., Henry of San Leandro, Calif., Jake of Hayward, Calif., Mrs. Ella Dalke of Berkeley, Calif., and Mrs. Clara Miles of Portland, Ore.; four brothers and two sisters, Frank Matthies of Newton, Kan., Abe and Henry Matthies of Hutchinson, Kan., George Matthies of Halstead, Kan., Mrs. Elizabeth Regier and Mrs. Katherine Dyck; and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 30, at the First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen with Rev. Walter Dyck officiating. Burial was made in the Homestead Cemetery.

MRS. ANNA DALKE

Mrs. Anna Dalke, daughter of Franz and Katherina (Wiebe) Matthies, was born in South Russia on April 11, 1885, and departed this earthly life on Saturday evening, June 27, 1959 at the St. Anthony Hospital in Pocatello, Idaho, following complications from surgery performed Friday, June 26. She attained the age of 74 years.

As a child she came to America with her parents, who settled near Buhler, Kan., where she also received her schooling. She was Baptised upon confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on May 17, 1907 by Elder A. M. Martins.

On March 31, 1910, at the age of 25 years she was married to Henry Dalke of Cordell, Okla., a widower with seven children. One of these, a daughter, Lena died in 1921 at the age of 19 years, and another, Anna, Mrs. John Lehrman, died in 1956.

From Cordell, Okla., the family moved to Hillsboro, Kan. After two years they returned to Vinita, Okla., where they lived about three years. Next they moved to Dubois, Idaho, there they lived for six years. On account of the crop failures in the dry farming area they moved to Aberdeen, Idaho in 1920, where both of the parents spent the remaining days of their lives. In 1955 they were privileged to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The father passed away in 1942, at the age of 75 years.

Mother joined the membership of First Mennonite Church, Aberdeen, in June 1926, over 33 years ago. She also belonged to the Ladies Mission Society. She always enjoyed going to church and went whenever possible. She will be missed by a large circle of relatives and friends.

She leaves eleven children: Five sons, Ferdinand of Aberdeen, Arnold Dallas, Ore., Ernest, American Falls, Ida., Eldon, Kansas City, Mo., Orlando, Boise, Ida., and six daughters, Esther, Mrs. Henry Ediger, Dallas, Ore., Rosella, Salem, Ore., Martha, Mrs. Don Misner, Seattle, Wash., Pauline, Mrs. Edmund [sic Edmond] Wilske, Berkeley, Calif., Linda, Mrs. Harry Claassen [sic Classen], Corvallis, Ore., and Ruth, Mrs. Jay Eden, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Also surviving are five step-children, Arthur, Salem, Ore., Henry, San Leandro, Calif., Jake, Hayward, Calif., Ella, Mrs. C. K. Dalke, Berkeley, Calif., and Clara, Mrs. A. T. Miles, Portland, Ore.; four brothers and two sisters, Abe and Henry Matthies of Hutchinson, Kan., Frank Matthies, Newton, Kan., and George Matthies, Halstead, Kan.; Mrs. Elizabeth Regier and Mrs. Katherine Dyck of Buhler, Kansas.

Mother had 41 grandchildren and 23 great-grand-children.

We believe that Mother is now with her Lord, enjoying in fullest fellowship the presence and favor of Christ in whom she trusted and whom she loved. — The family.
