Viola (Albrecht) Bontrager, born Nov. 6, 1905, in Imlay City, Mich., died at Sunnyside Health Care Facility in Sarasota, Fla., April 14, 1998, at the age of 92.
Viola married Chris Bontrager on June 30, 1929, and they celebrated 68 years of marriage. They came to Sarasota 19 years ago from Williamsville, N.Y.
During her early years she helped and encouraged her husband in establishing Harris Hill Mennonite Church at Williamsville, N.Y. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years and was a faithful member there.
In her younger years she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and provided many delicious home-canned goods for her family. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideons in the Buffalo area and then in Sarasota. At her death she was a faithful member of Bahia Vista Mennonite Church in Sarasota.
Survivors include her husband, Chris J.; a daughter, Jean Bender of Williamsville, N.Y.; two sons, G. Edwin and his wife Edith of Newport News, Va., and Dennis and his wife Alice of Sarasota; a sister, Mary Eick of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, John Albrecht of Arcadia, Fla., and Sidney Albrecht of Clarence Center, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Merlin, of Jackson, N. J., and a twin sister, Violetta Shrock of Sarasota.
